Welcome

Hello! My name is Meredith Howard and I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with a background as a social worker, mental health practitioner and an artist. I believe that everyone has the potential to live a meaningful life and I enjoy helping individuals explore their potential through a strength-based perspective.

Early in my career, I worked with both children and adults who had experienced strokes, trauma, traumatic brain injuries and other neurological concerns.  Later in my professional career I started teaching psychology and art, as well as continuing my work as a mental health and art therapist with mostly school age kids, college kids and young adults. In my sessions with people, I work towards helping them understand that the obstacles they face do not define who they are or what they are capable of.

My focus as a Creative Arts therapist is being able to guide people through those tough times in their life when they may need that extra support. When people are able to address their emotions and fears, learn ways to process and cope, and build resilience, it can be beneficial to them regardless of their age or stage in their life.

During my sessions, I like to incorporate different practices including:

·     Art Therapy techniques

·     Mindfulness Stress Reduction exercises

·     Solution-focused concepts

·     Skill building strategies

My Journey

I have worked in the healthcare and higher education field for most of my 15 year career. I received my undergraduate education from the University at Buffalo and graduated with a Masters in social work and obtained my New York State license in social work.  From there, I went on to purse my masters in creative arts therapy at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY and became a licensed art therapist.

My professional experience includes being an art therapist and telehealth therapist, an art teacher and college psychology instructor and working for non-profit agencies that serves individuals of all abilities and the aging population.

I do enjoy my time as a therapist and helping people, as well as the other roles in my life as  a mother, a painter and  spending time outdoors.
